6 Year Old Boy Gift Guide

 *Updated October 2025*

Hey friends!

You know by now that I don't love clutter, but I DO love having fun toys that facilitate play! Here's a list of gifts my 6 year old boy either has and loves, or are on our list for him this year!

 1. Who Would Win? books. My son loves facts and these animal battles are full of interesting animal facts. I confirmed with the local librarian that these books are a hit for this age boys and she has a hard time keeping them on the shelves.  ($8)

2. Favorite team junior-sized football. I don't really know any 6 year old boys that don't love throwing balls around. The favorite team logo makes it even better! ($12)

3. THIS remote-controlled car. According to the boy who has a lot of remote-controlled cars (and his cousins)... "This one is AWESOME." The wheels do all kinds of cool things, it plays music, and it can blast some steam. Checks all the boxes for a great price! ($41)

4. Beat the 8 Ball Game. My son got the hang of this game really quickly and thought it was so fun. I was also impressed that it teaches the concept of negative numbers in a fun way. ($24)

5. Trouble board game. My son got this for Christmas and made us play it about 100 times in a row. It's easy and fun for the whole family! ($10)

6. These "Branded" Simple Modern Stainless Steel Water Bottles. Most kids bring a water bottle everywhere they go these days, and these branded water bottles are our favorite. I think the 22oz is the perfect size for a 6 year old (not too big, not too small), they don't spill when straw is flipped down, and I love that it's stainless steel and not plastic. We have a few of these, and they are a win-win!

7. Uno Attack. We've played this game 1,000 times this year! It's fun for the whole family but my 6 year old especially loves it. ($24)

8. Over-the-Door Basketball Hoop. We have one in my son's bedroom on his closet door and we all play it every night before bed! I think it's his way of stalling bedtime but we love learning the skill of shooting balls and laughing together! ($35)

9. 100-piece puzzles. My son got a 100 piece puzzle and it's perfect for him. He can do it 100% by himself and has gotten faster each time he's done it. He loves it and I'm on the lookout for more like this! ($13)

10. Joke Books. This one is on our list for our son! He loves jokes at this age! ($7)

11. Lego race cars. We joke that my son LOVES Legos, but especially likes Legos "with wheels". He loves race cars and all Legos like this! I love Legos for him for several reasons - dexterity, patience, following directions, spatial building, Legos are a win-win for our family! ($10)

12. This set of card games.  Card games like these are perfect for 6 year olds. They can understand a bit more complex strategy but have the attention span for these shorter games. Our family LOVES card games, especially my 6 year old! ($12)

 13. Hotwheels

6 year olds are the perfect age for Hotwheels because they are still little-kid-enough to love "playing," but they are old enough to start to put the tracks together, figure out how it works, compare certain cars to each other, etc. We love Hotwheels at our house! My son has this exact one and it's always a hit with him and his friends! ($32)

14. Lamborghini Remote Control Car

Although my 6 year old doesn't care quite as much about backhoes and dump trucks, he still LOVES cars, especially "race cars." He thinks Lamborghinis are awesome because they are FAST. We have this remote control car, it's one of his favorites, and it actually is FAST! ($25)

15. Lite Brite Pokemon

My son had never heard of these before, so before I threw it in his Easter basket, I thought it was a bit of a gamble. HE LOVED IT. 6 year olds have the attention span for something like this, but also the concept is simple (my 4 year old could do it too, but didn't quite have the attention span). ($20)

16. Pokemon Trainer Guess

Okay while we're on the Pokemon theme, this trainer ball has literally been hours of entertainment for him—days, even. You use the "field guide" book it comes with and try to get the ball to guess which Pokemon you're thinking of by saying yes or no to the ball's questions. It's super fun! ($27)

17. Moon Ball

Why do 6 year olds love moon balls? They are bouncy and a little unpredictable! My son got to pick a toy at a toy store while we were on vacation, and this is what he chose! It brought the whole group lots of fun for the whole trip! ($10)

18. X-Shot "nerf" Blaster

My 6 year old has quite a few nerf-style blasters and they are literally ALL fun for him! ($20)

19. Magic Bouncy Ball Maker

This worked better than I expected! It was fun for both of my kids and they both have asked to do it again. You can choose the colors/design and create a couple different size balls. ($16)

20. NFL Guess Who

Got a sports-lover in your life? This is a fun take on the classic game! ($25)

21. Hot Wheels Cars

My son could literally never have enough Hot Wheels! He loves to see all the different kinds. He has a million and they are ALL special to him! :) ($28 for 20 cars)

22. Kid Metal Detector

This is on my list for my son! How fun is this! I know he will love it.

22. Batting T 2-in-1

Literally ALL versions of T-ball are fun for this age! I love this one that grows into a little older version, too! And it's a safer bat for practicing in the backyard!

23. Voice Changer

Little boys love things like this! Let's get LOUDER! :)

24. You are 6 and Amazing book

How sweet is this! We don't have this yet but I think it would be special for reading with your big 6 year old!
